The condition of the road to Douglas from Passage has been raised as a serious issue among many residents. The road surface and width came in for particular criticism as did delays caused at the round about near Rochestown Church.
No plans are in place to make any real difference to the commuting lives of Passage residents in the near future. At the moment with construction on going in Harbour Heights no money has been allocated to upgrade the road.
Residents of Parkview, The Meadows and Mariners View passed on their concerns to Deirdre Clune TD when she called to them recently. She was joined by Passage West Town Councillor John Daly and Cork County Councillor.
Other hot topics included the lack of progress on the Star of the Sea primary school development, speeding cars in the vicinity of St Peter’s secondary school and underage drinking in the town.

A report in the Evening Echo last night said that road works starting soon and due to run for 20 weeks will mean that the road to Douglas will have stop/go traffic lights causing further disruption for the winter.

It’s a disgrace that a road that serves so many people can be allowed continue in that state. Roads in west Cork and parts of Kerry that rarely see traffic are looked after far better that a road that serves thousands of people everyday. Something needs to be done.

No 1 Issue in the area at the moment is the traffic on the Rochestown road each morning.I have heard people complaining that it takes almost an hour to get into Cork in the morning.
This is due to get substantially worse over the next few weeks when the laying of a new watermain commences. This will be from the Harbour Heights estate to Hop Island. This was well signalled a couple of years ago and I attended a deputation to Cork Co. Council over 18 months months ago requesting that the road be widened and a green route be laid from Passage to the South Ring interchange. Funding was not forthcoming from government for this.
