ECAD the East Cork Area Development board looks after funding for community based projects in East Cork and now also the Carrigaline Electoral Area (Passage West, Monkstown, Douglas, Grange, Rochestown, Carrigaline, Crosshaven) Below is an update on their plans for the coming months. Contact details are at the end.
Leader Funds
ECAD will be delivering LEADER (Rural Development Programme) and Local Development Social Inclusion Programmes and other related initiatives henceforth in the Carrigaline Electoral Area. A consultation process for the LEADER plan has been completed undertaken including 14 meetings which were held across the area which includes Ballincollig, Douglas, Bishopstown, Togher, Carrigaline, Rochestown, Passage West, Monkstown, Ringaskiddy, Crosshaven, Tracton and Ballinhassig-Ballygarvan. An overall review of the draft plan will be held with all the communities once the LEADER Programme (2007-2103) has been announced by the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs. Funding should become available from Leader for projects during 2008.
Local Development Funds
ECAD will begin carrying out pre-planning work in the Carrigaline Electoral Area in relation to the Social Inclusion Programme starting in November 2007. This will look at community services, facilities and supports focused on supporting Social Inclusion in the area. Community groups in the area have asserted the need for the development or improvement of “Community Groups”. Together with Muintir na Tire a series of seminars will be held in order to help communities or groups to identify the steps that they could take in either establishing a group or improving the capacity, effectiveness or impact of existing groups.
Rural Transport
The Department of Transport and the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs have given positive indications that ECAD will be included in the next Rural Transport Programme. ECAD will consult closely with communities over the coming months in advance of completing a Rural Transport Plan to cover East Cork and the Carrigaline Electoral Area going forward. If this ‘Plan’ is accepted by Government the first Rural Transport Programme for the area could become operational from summer 2008.
We are looking forward to bringing new levels and types of supports and services to your community. Many thanks to all who have helped and encouraged our efforts to date.
