This week parents have expressed anger, disappointment and frustration at the lack of progress in relation to the promised new Star of the Sea Primary School in Passage West.

Developing Community Funding Programmes for Tomorrow

The Communities within the Carrigaline Electoral Area which includes the catchments of Douglas, Carrigaline, Crosshaven and Ballincollig and Lenenagh are to benefit in the coming years as a result of their inclusion in the Community Funding Plans being developed by East Cork Area Development (ECAD) Ltd.

No Money in Budget for Passage School

Last weeks budget contained no funds to start building the long awaited and promised primary school in Passage West.

Idea’s wanted for new town development

Passage West Town Council will be meeting next week to discuss ideas for a community center/civic building in the new Howard Holding’s development. The development will be on the site of the Royal Victoria Dockyard (Haulbowline Industries) and impressive plans were displayed earlier this week.

Port of Cork Development

Sacred Heart Church, Monkstown, was the venue for a well attended public meeting to discuss the Port of Cork (PoC) company’s planning application for development of a container terminal in Ringaskiddy.

New Passage West Town Centre

Howard Holdings Public Display

Plans for Passage Wests new town centre incorporating townhouses, apartments, hotel, marina, retail units and car parking are going on public display this week in the old credit union building.

On Wednesday December 5th from 4pm-9pm and Thursday December 6th from 10am-3pm.

Update from ECAD; Public meeting

Community & Voluntary Sector Election Meeting 

A meeting will be held to elect Community Representatives from the Carrigaline Electoral Area onto the LEADER/LDSIP Company Board that will operate across the East Cork & Carrigaline Electoral Area. 

This meeting will be hosted by ECAD for all Community & Voluntary Bodies operating in the Carrigaline Electoral Area which includes the Ballincollig, Ballinhassig, Ballygarvan, Bishopstown, Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Douglas, Passage West/Monkstown, Ringaskiddy, Tracton/Minane Bridge and Togher areas. All Community & Voluntary groups are invited to take part in this process.

Update on Community Funding

ECAD the East Cork Area Development board looks after funding for community based projects in East Cork and now also the Carrigaline Electoral Area (Passage West, Monkstown, Douglas, Grange, Rochestown, Carrigaline, Crosshaven) Below is an update on their plans for the coming months. Star of the Sea NS… whats really going on?

No one seems to know what’s really going on with regard to the new primary school that Passage was promised a decade ago. Before the election we were informed that the project had been moved to the “design stage.” So surely we could expect some progress?Not so.

The issue is obviously one of the burning topics for many with young kids in our community so we asked Deirdre Clune TD to contact the Dept. of Education to find out what is really happening.

The department told Deputy Clune that the project was moved to “design stage” in November of 2006. Since then nothing of substance has happened. No design team has been appointed, however they have advertised for the team.

The closing date for this tender is the 15^th of October and the Dept. of Education hopes to appoint a design team in November… so only 12 months to get a design team!
